Livestock Insurance Scheme

Our state implements several farmer-friendly schemes to strengthen the dairy sector which focus to attain self-sufficiency in milk production while safeguarding the well being of farmers.

Kerala stands third in overall cattle productivity of milk due to the increased proportion of high-yielding crossbred cattle in the state population, though the herd sizes are small.

The Cattle Insurance Scheme was conceived by the Animal Husbandry Department with precise planning to financially support the dairy farmers in the event of unexpected death of cattle or loss due to Permanent Total disability of the animals.

The Gosamrudhi NLM Cattle Insurance scheme, funded by the State Government and the Central Government since 2016-17, helps to reinforce sustainable livelihood of the dairy farming community.

Gosamrudhi NLM 2025-26 insurance scheme is one with lowest premium available in the State. The scheme offers 85% subsidy to premium for all categories of farmers . The dairy farmers can insure their cattle /buffalo with an estimated value of up to Rs. 65000/-, for one year or three years coverage period under this scheme, by remitting a beneficiary contribution of 15% of the premium only..
