Livestock Management Training Centre, Mundayad was established as per Order No.1465/84/AD dtd. 06/06/1984 in the premises of Regional Poultry Farm, Mundayad. The Principal Training Officer in the cadre of Joint Director is the head of the office. The institute since 2021 is functioning in a three storied well equipped with two training Halls with a capacity to seat 150 and 50 trainees at Kakkad road near District Homeo Hospital, Kannur which is well connected by Road and 1.5 Km distance from Railway Station and 1 Km distance from District Veterinary Centre, Kannur. LMTC Kannur provides training to farming communities representing Kannur, Kasaragod and a larger part of Kozhikode district in subject related to scientific Animal rearing inclusive of small and large animals. This institute also provides Inservice training to newly recruited Livestock Inspectors with a period of training ranging from 3 month to 11 month.

          This institution additionally inculcates Skill Development activities to various other staff like Attendant and Part Time Sweeper, collaborating with IMG. This institute provides short term/one day  training programme to Veterinary Surgeons of Animal Husbandry Department. LMTC Kannur started functioning on 13/08/1984 as per order No. 1465/84/AD dtd. 06/06/1984.

OBJECTIVES

  • Provides training programmes to the farmers of Kasaragode, kannur and Kozhikode regarding Scientific and systematic Animal Husbandry practices for profitable Dairy and Poultry Farming as a means of self-employment, supplementary income generation and facilitating women empowerment.

  • Provides training to educated unemployed youth in Animal husbandry practices.

  • Undertakes exhibition, extension and Awareness programme at various locations based on requirement and request on subject of relevance to Animal Husbandry.

  • Provides short term and long-term In-service training to newly recruited Livestock Inspector of AHD selected through KPSC.

  • Provides training to the staff of AHD.

  • Provides Awareness class to school and college students.

ACTIVITIES

  • The institution provides regular training programmes to create basic awareness regarding rearing of farm animals, food animals, pet animals and ornamental birds and animals including poultry in subjects like scientific feeding, rationing Management Breeding selection, construction of cattle shed and poultry shed, Calf management, balanced rationing to make the animal husbandry activities more profitable and sustainable.

  • The institute judiciously uses all the available audio-visual aid for better understanding of the subject.

  • Regularly conduct exhibitions and distributes leaflets, brouchers, pamphlets and other informational articles regarding the recent information in Animal Husbandry practice.

  • The institution has good pool of experience and qualified visiting faculty including the in-house faculty, who regularly updates their knowledge in tune with the recent development activities as a connecting bridge between research institutes and farmers.

 PUBLIC SERVICE

  • LMTC has well equipped and well-furnished training hall to provide training programme to farmers, Kudumbasree members, college and school students as well as to the staff of  This institute also has 15 seater van which carries all the  Audio-visual  equipment’s, screen and other training material for off campus training programme  conducted at distinct places at the door step of farmers, Milk societies and LSG’s.

  • The exhibition done at various places showcase the activities and opportunities in Animal Husbandry sector by providing solution to their problems related to animal husbandry practice. Printed leaflets are also circulated during these exhibitions.

  • The women are encouraged to engage in small scale animal husbandry practices like goat rearing, small scale poultry farming with an aim to generate better household income leading to women empowerment in the financial aspects.

  • School children and members of school poultry club are also exposed to the practical aspects of Poultry Husbandry.

  • Public awareness is created against various zoonotic disease, pet animal rearing and to be a responsibilities pet owner – importance of vaccination and prevention of bite and precaution in pet animal rearing.

ADMINISTRATION

      The Joint Director, designated as the Principal Training Officer, heads the institute, overseeing all activities, making timely decisions, and scheduling both on-campus and off-campus training programs. An Assistant Director of Training supports him in the routine operations.

A Field Officer handles material distribution, maintains farmers’ registers, and monitors training inventories, leaflets, and brochures to ensure adequate publicity.

The institute is supported by a dedicated team, including a Field Officer, a Confidential Assistant, Clerk, Cinema Operator cum Driver, Typist, Office Attendant, and Part-time Sweeper, who collectively ensure the smooth execution of training programs with active farmer participation.
